So glad you found us!

We represent a group of local citizens who have formed a group to discuss a sustainable community development project about the past, present and future health of our Mississippi River and the communities situated on the river and its tributaries throughout the watershed.[link to map]

We aim to engage local citizens in communities within the watershed to work toward the health of the river, while enhancing the balance between our communities and the river. These towns and villages were built using the power of the river. Now it’s our turn to give our collective power to the river. We envision an ongoing series of friendly challenges that will encourage each community to come up with concrete actions and realistic solutions to address local issues.

This may look like:

  • engaging local groups, such as youth organizations, to organize river cleanup events;
  • municipal and county remediation projects;
  • individual citizen and group proposals to mitigate current and future challenges the Mississippi River and the communities that depend on it.

Our vision is for communities to come together around a common, joyful purpose: to work toward the long-term health and prosperity of the river and the watershed. A community challenge approach can bring out the best in people and places. As we develop a deeper relationship with the river, we come to appreciate its importance in all of our lives. While we must acknowledge past uses and abuses of the river, it is time to turn our attention to designing solid plans for a sustainable future, leaving a beautiful legacy for future generations.
